Large-scale hangars and aviation support facilities require façade systems that can withstand harsh environmental conditions. The recently completed Hangar 101 at Archerfield Airport showcases how aluminium cladding can be used to create a contemporary façade while meeting the practical requirements of aviation infrastructure.

Located within one of Australia's busiest general aviation hubs, the development forms part of Archerfield Airport's ongoing investment into aviation infrastructure and facilities designed to support charter, maintenance and aircraft operations.

For the exterior façade, 1,170m² of AODELI's Non-Combustible Panel (NCP) was supplied in a combination of Medium Bronze, Monument and Shining Silver finishes. Installed by Cladding Creations and delivered by builder Multi Span Australia Group, the project is a great example of how aluminium cladding can contribute to performance and visual appearance for industrial and aviation buildings.

While hangars are fundamentally functional structures, architectural designs for these developments have increased significantly in recent years. As aviation developments become more sophisticated, there is growing demand for facilities that balance operational requirements with a strong architectural presence. The combination of metallic and contrasting finishes used at Hangar 101 results in a façade that features a clean, contemporary aesthetic suited to its industrial setting.

This project highlights the many advantages of using non-combustible aluminium panel systems. Across aviation, warehouse and industrial developments, lightweight aluminium cladding is frequently specified for its durability, ease of installation and ability to deliver a consistent finish over large elevations.

Finish selection was also key to the success of this project. Neutral tones such as Medium Bronze, Monument and Shining Silver continue to be popular across warehouse and hangar developments, delivering a more refined external appearance. Aluminium's versatility allows architects and developers to incorporate multiple finishes within a single façade, creating visual interest and an appealing aesthetic to staff and visitors.

Aluminium cladding systems offer designers the flexibility to achieve their design objectives combined with long-term performance. The availability of standard and custom colours and finishes also allows developments to align with their corporate branding or operational identity where required.

Through the combination of durable non-combustible aluminium panels and carefully selected finishes, Hangar 101 demonstrates how contemporary cladding solutions can enhance the appearance and performance of modern aviation facilities.
